These machines are fast, easy to use, and found in thousands of stores nationwide.
1. KeyMe
Up first is by far the most available and easiest way to make new keys. The service is called KeyMe.
Founded in 2012, they created a nationwide network of over 4000 self-service kiosks located in many popular stores, including Walmart, Lowes, HomeDepot, and even 7-Eleven.
The kiosks are intuitive to use, have a variety of decorative and colored keys to choose from, and only take a few minutes to clone a key.
Depending on your location, KeyMe kiosks can copy house keys, office keys, mailbox keys, key fobs, and most car keys—including chipped transponder keys.

Founded in 2008, there are now thousands of MinuteKey kiosks found in stores like Walmart, Ace Hardware, and Lowes. They also offer various decorative keys to choose from.

Hardware and Home Improvement Stores
Many hardware and home improvement stores offer key duplication services.Most stores have a key duplication kiosk or an in-house employee who'll cut your key manually. Some locations employ both!
3. Home Depot
Home Depot is the biggest name in home improvement and has over 2,300 stores in North America.
Most Home Depots offer MinuteKey kiosks and traditional over-the-counter-key copying services.
Depending on your location, they can copy most residential, office, vehicle, and fob keys.
You’ll need to call your local Home Depot to verify that they cut keys and what type. Or you can check the MinuteKey website for a kiosk near you.

4. Lowes
Lowes is another huge name in the home improvement world, with nearly 2,200 stores nationwide.
Depending on your location, they offer various key duplication services, including in-store key cutting and key kiosks (both MinuteKey and KeyMe).
Most Lowes stores can copy standard house and office keys and car keys, and some can copy key fobs and RFID cards.
You’ll need to check with your local Lowes to specify what services they offer.
5. Ace Hardware
Ace Hardware is the world’s largest hardware store chain, with over 5,200 locations.
They offer in-store key-cutting services for standard house and office keys. Some locations also have key kiosks that can copy car keys and fobs.

6. Menards
Menards is a home improvement store chain with over 330 locations in the Midwest.
Most stores will have in-store key-cutting services or some KeyMe self-service kiosks.
Depending on your location, Menards can copy standard house keys, mailbox keys, office keys, and some transponder car keys.
As with other stores, it’s best to call your local Menards to see what services they offer.
7. True Value Hardware
Like Ace Hardware and other hardware stores, True Value Hardware offers in-store key duplication services and can cut most types of keys.
They have over 4,500 retail stores worldwide, and some locations also have KeyMe kiosks.
Services vary from location to location, so it’s best to call your local True Value to see what types of keys they can copy.
8. Local Hardware Stores
There are thousands of local hardware stores nationwide, more than 13,000 to be exact. Many of which are small businesses not affiliated with larger chains—like Ace Hardware.
These smaller stores can cut and copy a variety of keys for the same low price as larger chains.
Don't forget the little support the mom-and-pop shops around the country, even if it's just a couple key!
9. Local Locksmith
While not a traditional hardware store, locksmiths are the grand wizards of locks and keys.
Most people think locksmiths are expensive, but this is only true when they have to travel out to a location.
If you go to their shop, they're just as cheap as any other service on this list—but you get the added benefit of having a true professional help you, and you're supporting a local small business.

10. Walmart
Walmart is one of the biggest department stores in the world, with over 10,500 locations in 24 countries.
Most stores have a MinuteKey or KeyMe self-service kiosk, which you'll typically find at the front entrance of the store.

11. Fleet Farm
If you live in the Upper Midwest, you've likely heard of Fleet Farm. With nearly 50 locations, they offer MinuteKey key kiosks at the front of most stores. These kiosks are easy to use, cheap, and require no help from employees.

12. Tractor Supply
Tractor Supply is one of the largest rural lifestyle retailers in the United States, with over 2,000 stores in 49 states.
Most Tractor Supply locations have self-service MinuteKey kiosks near the entrance of the store that allows you to quickly and cheaply make duplicates of most home and office keys. Some locations can also copy car keys, fobs, and RFID cards.

13. Bed Bath & Beyond
Believe it or not, you can copy your keys at many Bed Bath & Beyond stores. They have over 1,300 locations in all 50 states and offer self-service KeyMe kiosks, which can typically be found near the front of the store.
These kiosks can make house keys on demand, cheaply, and easily. Some locations can even copy car keys and key fobs.

14. Big Lots
With over 1,400 stores in 47 states, it's hard not to find a Big Lots, and like many of the retail stores on this list, they offer key duplication kiosks right at the front door!
You can copy most types of keys, such as residential keys, office keys, and padlock keys. Some locations can even copy car keys (both ignition and transponder key).

15. Sears
What list would be complete without the infamous Sears? While Sears is slowly dying, there are still 230 stores open in 2024, and many of them host KeyMe self-service kiosks. These kiosks are easy-to-use self-service machines that make you a precision cut house keys in minutes. Some can even copy your vehicle keys and key fobs.

16. Meijer's
With 248 locations scattered throughout the Midwest, Meijer's is another great place to get your keys copied.
Most stores have a KeyMe station right in the front door that lets you quickly and effortlessly copy keys for your home and office. Some locations can even copy vehicle keys and key fobs.

17. BJ’s Wholesale Club
BJ's Wholesale Club has over 200 locations stretching the east coast—from Florida up to Maine. And they sell keys!
Many BJ's have KeyMe duplication machines that let you copy your house keys, office keys, and some car keys. If your local BJ's has one of these awesome machines, you'll typically find it in the front of the store.

Convenience Stores
18. 7-Eleven
7-Eleven is one of the most well-known convenience stores in North America—infamous for their Slurpees and big gulps. Believe it or not, you can also get your keys made there too.
Many 7-Elevens offer KeyMe duplication kiosks capable of copying house keys and, depending on the location, sometimes car keys.
With nearly 80,000 locations in 19 countries, it's hard not to find one of these convenience stores nearby.
Grocery and Drug Stores
Grocery and drug stores are the last places anyone would think of when it comes to copying a key, but many popular stores offer self-service key kiosks in the front of their stores. These machines are cheap, effective, and easy enough for anyone to use.
19. Rite Aid
With over 2,550 stores nationwide, you likely have a Rite Aid just down the street. Quite a few Rite Aids have KeyMe key-copying machines right in the front door that can quickly copy all your house and office keys. Depending on your location, some can also copy car keys and fobs.

20. Albertsons
Albertsons is the second-largest supermarket in North America and has over 2,200 stores in 34 states.
Many locations also have do-it-yourself KeyMe machines in the front of the store that copy and cut house keys. Depending on your location and machine, some can even copy basic ignition keys, transponder keys, and key fobs!

21. Safeway
Safeway has over 900 stores in 17 states, and most offer KeyMe self-service machines at the front of their stores. These machines are like key vending machines that can quickly and cheaply make perfect duplicates of your house keys, office keys, and at some locations, car keys and fobs.
Not all Safeway's have these machines, so you'll have to call your local Safeway or check out the KeyMe section at the top of this guide for current prices and information on how to find a local machine near you.
22. Kroger
Kroger's is the largest grocer in North America, with over 2,800 locations in 35 states. They operate under a variety of names, including King Soopers, Fred Myer's, Dillions, Ralphs, and Pick 'n Save.
Most of their stores offer KeyMe key duplication machines at the front entrance. These machines can copy most residential and office keys. Depending on your location, some machines can also copy fobs and car keys.

23. Fred Myer's
If you live in the Northwest, you likely know Fred Myer. But did you know most of their 140 locations have key copying kiosks right in the front door?
These key kiosks are self-service key-copying vending machines that make perfect copies of home keys. Some locations can copy your car keys, but you'll need to check their service map or call Fred Myer's to see what services they offer in your local store.

24. King Soopers
King Soopers has over 100 locations stretching running up the Rocky Mountains, and believe it or not, they offered key copying services.
Most King Soopers have self-service kiosks at the front of their stores. These kiosks let you copy most standard house keys and even some car keys.

25. WinCo
If you live in the western states, you've probably heard of WinCo. Most of their 130 locations offer MinuteKey kiosks, which let you make your own keys quickly and cheaply.
These self-service machines can typically be found near the entrance and can house keys, office keys, and, depending on the machine, sometimes car keys.

26. HyVee
With over 280 stores stretching across the midwest, HyVee is a wonderful grocery store that also offers MinuteKey key copying kiosks.
These kiosks are self-service and found at the front entrance of most stores. You can quickly and easily make copies of your house, office, and (at some locations) car keys. They offer a ton of key designs, and the service is very cheap.
Not every store has one of these kiosks, so it's best to call ahead or visit the MinuteKey section above for prices and their website, which lets you search for a kiosk near you!
27. Dillons
If you live in Kansas, you're in luck! Many of Dillon's 65 locations house KeyMe kiosks at the front of their stores that can quickly make copies of your keys without the help of an employee!

28. Save Mart
Save Mart has an insane 300 locations scattered throughout California and parts of Nevada.
You can get keys made at many of these grocery stores using their self-service key copying machines (KeyMe). These machines can copy most house keys, and depending on the machine, some can also copy car keys.

29. H-E-B
This one is for the Texans out there! H-E-B is one of the largest independently owned grocers and has 400+ locations throughout Texas and Mexico.
They have also teamed up with KeyMe and have put these self-service key duplication machines in many of their stores. KeyMe machines can quickly copy most house keys, and some machines can even copy car keys.

30. Vons
Another place to make keys is Vons. With nearly 200 locations in California and Nevada, many of their stores offer self-service key duplication machines called KeyMe. These machines can make cheap and effective house keys in minutes. Some locations can also make car keys and key fobs.

Auto Part Stores and Dealerships
31. AutoZone
AutoZone is the largest retailer of auto parts in the United States and has over 6,400 stores in North America.
They also offer quite a bit in regard to keys.
Some AutoZone's have KeyMe kiosks that can quickly and easily duplicate your home and office keys. Most locations also duplicate and program vehicle keys and key fobs.
The services they offer a change from location to location, so it's always best to give your local store a call before making a trip.

32. O'Reilly Auto Parts
Founded in 1957, O’Reilly Auto Parts has nearly 6,000 stores in 47 states.
Some O’Reilly stores offer professionally cut and program car keys and key fobs. While other locations might only have a self-service KeyMe kiosk for cutting house keys or basic car keys.
It’s best to give your local O’Reilly’s a call before stopping, just in case they don’t offer the service you need.
33. NAPA
NAPA was founded in 1925, making the company nearly 100 years old.
With over 6,000 locations in the United States, they offer a ton of key copying services, including transponder vehicle keys, key fobs, and even cut house keys.
34. Advanced Auto Parts
Advanced Auto has and, like most auto parts stores, sells, copies, and programs an assortment of automotive keys and key fobs.
Not all locations can offer this service, nor can they copy every key, so be sure to call before dropping by.
They do not offer standard house key duplication.
35. Pep Boys
With nearly 1,000 locations nationwide, Pep Boys is another unique option that is known to hand-cut and program vehicle keys.
There have also been reports that some Pep Boys locations have key copying kiosks for house keys, but I haven't seen any clear evidence of that being the case
Just to be safe, give your local Pep Boys a call to see what services your local store offers.
Other Places to Get Keys Made
36. Pop-A-Lock
Servicing over Pop-A-Lock is a mobile locksmithing service that specializes in automotive lock-outs but also services homes and bussiness.
They service over 4,500 cities nationwide and can copy or create new keys on-site. Because they are a call-out service, key duplication is a little more pricy than the other options on this list.
37. Car Keys Express
If you need a car key, there is no easier way than Car Keys Express.
This service has three options to copy your keys.
- Online SnapKey: Take a picture of your car key using their app, and they’ll send you a duplicate and an installation kit to pair it with your car.
- Mobile Van Service: An on-demand service that drives to you and copies a perfect key onsite.
- Visit a Retail Store: Car Keys Express has teamed up with several retail stores, including Lowes, Amazon, Walmart, and Batteries Plus.
Car Keys Express is an awesome service that’s grown in popularity and trust over the years. Highly recommend giving them a shot!
38. Car Dealership
Last on the list are car dealerships.
This being said, I would avoid car dealerships at all costs.
They significantly overcharge for even the most basic keys and services. If you need specialty work done, consider AutoZone, NAPA, or a locksmith.
If can even reprogram some key fobs on your own if you need to.
However, if a dealership is all you have, they can help you. Just be prepared to pay with an arm and maybe a leg.
Places That Don't Make Keys
There are a ton of stores out there that you would assume make keys but don't. Below are some of the most popular stores that don't make keys.
- Target: This is among the most popular department stores in North America—right next to Walmart. Being so popular, you would think they would have some key duplication kiosks, but they don't. Hopefully, this will change, and I'll be sure to update this guide if it does.
How Much Does It Cost to Copy a Key
The cost of cloning a key depends on the type of key you need and where you go. However, most places charge between $1.50 and $6 per house key.
Car keys tend to be more expensive than regular house keys. This is because they often require special programming in order for them to work with your car. The cost of cutting and programming a car key can range from $50 to $250, and key fobs can range from $50 to $400.
Some places might charge a little more or less, but that's generally the range you can expect.
The Different Types of Keys
There are a variety of different types of keys, each serving a different purpose.
- House Keys: House keys are the most common type of key. They are relatively simple and can be duplicated at any hardware store, home improvement store, or locksmith.
- Non-Transponder Ignition Keys: If your vehicle was made in 1999 or earlier, it likely uses a regular ignition key. These keys require no special equipment or programming to make and are fairly cheap.
- Transponder Car Keys: If your vehicle was manufactured in 2000 or later, it likely requires a transponder key. A transponder key is a type of car key that requires special programming in order to work with your car. Transponder keys are more complex than regular car keys and are often more expensive. These chipped keys can be duplicated at many automotive stores, as well as some home improvement stores, locksmiths, and some kiosks.
- Key Fobs: Key fobs are electronic keys that are used to unlock and start cars. Key fobs can be duplicated at many automotive stores, as well as some home improvement stores and locksmiths.
- High-Security Keys: If you're using a high-security lock, such as Medico, ASSA, or Mul-T-Lock, your key is patented, and you'll have to visit a locksmith that is licensed to make duplications of your particular key.
